Rickie Fowler fulfills dying man’s golf wish, dedicates Hero win to him following his passing

We need more athletes to follow in Ricky Fowler’s footsteps!!! With everything going on in a popular athlete’s life, it makes it even more special when they go out of their way to make someone else’s day or life!  I have always heard that Ricky was one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but this says it all!!  Your thoughts….

Among galleries and fellow pros, Rickie Fowler is one of the most popular players in the game. This tale will only help that standing.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to share his experience with Dr. Reyes, a man who was battling pancreatic cancer. Fowler went to Atlanta in October to share a day with Dr. Reyes, sharing lunch and playing golf. “It was a day I will remember for the rest of my life!” Fowler wrote. Before the Hero World Challenge, Dr. Reyes lost his battle with cancer.

Fast forward to that next Sunday. In the final round of Tiger Woods’ tourney, Fowler shot a course-record 61, coming back from seven shots to win the event. A charge spurred by just 21 putts, and a performance Fowler credits to his time with Dr. Reyes.

Fowler ended his post by dedicating his triumph to Dr. Reyes, and thanked Reyes for spending one of his last days with him.

“Thank you Dr. Reyes, and the win last week was for you!” Fowler said. “Rest In Peace and my thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends.”

Is anyone else watching this?

I am not sure if anyone else has been paying attention to what Bernhard Langer is doing, but he is on an incredible streak right now!  Not to mention, he is only 10 wins away from passing Hale Irwin with the most Champion Tour wins.  I can’t wait to watch the events he is competing in because it is like a clinic and is awesome to see for myself. If you get a chance, you should see for yourself.  Can you think of anyone playing better right now? Your thoughts….

Here’s a scary thought for the rest of the PGA Tour Champions: Bernhard Langer is getting … better?

Shrugging off any concerns that his legendary career was over following the anchoring ban, the ageless German won a personal-best seven events in 2017 to set his sights on the all-time senior wins record.

Whether it’s Steve Stricker or Jerry Kelly, David Toms or Davis Love III, every year features a new crop of PGA Tour vets who are supposed to take the senior circuit by storm. And yet no one can top Langer, even at age 60.

Across 22 events he won three majors, top-tenned 16 times and banked nearly $3.68 million, making a mockery of the PGA Tour Champions’ “playoff” system in which he somehow finished second.

Of course, all of that success breeds competitive jealousy, which is how Langer found himself in the news so often in 2017.

Many predicted that the 2016 anchoring ban would lead to Langer’s demise, but the man who has overcome the putting yips wasn’t fazed by this transition, either. Using the same broomhandle putter, he moved the end slightly away from his sternum and led the senior tour in putting.

Was it hard work that kept Langer at the top of the statistics for the sixth consecutive year, or something more sinister? Players gossiped and slow-motion replays showed that Langer’s left hand was still uncomfortably close to his chest, and so Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee went on air, called the anchor-ban enforcement “appalling” and suggested that both Langer and fellow longtime anchorer Scott McCarron (who ranked second in putting) were playing fast and loose with the rules, even though both were cleared of any wrongdoing by the USGA.

The criticism stung Langer – he repeatedly defended his actions and expressed disappointment that his integrity was called into question – but, as always, he has moved forward. Now only 10 wins from surpassing Hale Irwin as the most prolific senior champion of all time, he will continue wielding the long putter better than anyone, critics be damned.

There has been a Tiger sighting!!!

It has been a long time and a lot of the golf world wondered if they would ever see Tiger play again. Well, Tiger is back and teeing it up at the Hero Challenge in the Bahamas. How do you think he will play? I would love to see him play well. Your thoughts?

NASSAU, Bahamas – The final tab was $543.50, but the emotional and professional toll may never be fully known.

That was how much, not including attorney’s fees, Tiger Woods paid in various court costs and fines following his May arrest for DUI in South Florida.

On Tuesday at Albany, site of this week’s Hero World Challenge, Woods spoke publicly of the incident for the first time, giving a glimpse into a life that had been defined for so long by pain and sleeplessness.

This is in no way an excuse for Woods’ decision to get behind the wheel of his black Mercedes on Memorial Day. He could have hurt someone else. He could have hurt himself. But in a rare moment of clarity on Tuesday, Woods seemed to offer an explanation, not an excuse.

“I didn’t realize how bad my back was,” said Woods, who is poised to make his competitive return this week following fusion surgery on his lower back in April. “Now that I’m feeling the way I’m feeling, it’s just hard to imagine that I was living the way I was living with my foot not working, my leg not working, and then the hours of not being able to sleep at all because of the pain.”

Woods has explained this week in more detail than ever before how debilitating his ailing back had become. How empty his life had become, not being able to go to dinner with friends or play sports with his children.

For so long Woods masked anything even approaching a weakness. As late as February at the Dubai Desert Classic, his last competitive start, he quickly dismissed any lingering health issues. “I wasn’t in pain at all,” he said following his opening round, less than 12 hours before withdrawing with a back injury that was described only as spasms.

Woods’ air of invincibility rested for so long on his ability to do things other players could not, either on the course with a golf club in his hand or in his head when his body betrayed him. He was, after all, the man who won a U.S. Open on one leg, so it stands to reason that he was willing to cling to that bravado longer than common sense and modern medicine would suggest.

However he arrived at that dark crossroads in Jupiter, Fla., in May, he came by his missteps honestly. Woods didn’t set out that night looking for a new path, but there’s little doubt now his arrest and the ensuing legal give-and-take forced his hand.

“I was trying to go away from the pain and I was trying to sleep, which I hadn’t done in a very long time because of the things I’ve been dealing with,” said Woods, who acknowledged in June that he was “receiving professional help” for how to manage his medications and deal with pain.

“As my back improved, I’ve been able to start sleeping again because I don’t have the nerve pain going down my leg, I don’t have my leg twitching all over the place. So yeah, I’m loving life now.”

Maybe Woods would have gotten there eventually. Maybe there was no need for the public humiliation his arrest, and the accompanying body-cam footage of his field-sobriety test, caused. But hindsight being the ultimate judge and jury, there’s no denying that May’s low-water mark has impacted the 41-year-old’s road back to competitive relevance.

This week Woods has been confident and relaxed. He’s shown an intriguing level of restraint every time he’s been asked about his expectations and has largely avoided the standard clichés.

“I’m just looking forward to getting through these four rounds and having an understanding, a better understanding of where I’m at,” he said.

That’s a long way from those “second sucks” days every time he put a peg in the ground.

Woods knows this is the 10th comeback in his career, either from injury or personal issues, and the third time he’s returned to the competitive fold at the Hero World Challenge. He also knows there is no real follow-up to fusion surgery. Medically speaking this is the final chapter.

Yet there’s no sense of urgency. No false hope that just because he’s finally pain-free he’ll simply pick up where he left off. If anything, there’s an acceptance that after so many years of uncertainty and pain whatever transpires from here is hardly worth losing sleep over.

“I don’t know how I was able to do it, how I was able to compete and play even back in like ’13, I was still struggling back then,” Woods said. “To live with that for the last four years like that, that’s not been fun.”

Woods conceded that he hasn’t seen the video of his arrest. He doesn’t have to. He lived it. And while he stopped well short of calling it an epiphany moment, there’s no denying that he’s “come out the other side” stronger. Maybe even better.

Woods’ arrest and ensuing probation came with an untold cost to his reputation, not to mention his business portfolio. But in retrospect, that $543.50 seems like a small price to pay for what is undeniably a new outlook.

Caymus Wine Dinner…….Unforgettable!!!!

The Caymus Wine Dinner held at Echelon last Wednesday will not soon be forgotten. Guest that attended are still reminiscing about the delectable seared Calico Scallops as well as the other 4 courses that were served. The wines from Caymus showed very well and reminded us of how expressive these beautiful Napa Valley wines are. Every guest that I spoke with over the course of the evening and the days after were absolutely blown away by the menu that Chef Tim Dabrowa put together as well as the level of service they received. I would like to take a moment to say “Thank You” to all who attended that evening. Seeing the dining room filled with smiles and laughter is more rewarding than words can express. I would also like to thank Rich Bowan of Caymus Winery and Jeff Adler of Empire Distributors for being a part of the evening and educating guests on the history of Caymus and how the became one of the biggest names in the wine industry. Last, but certainly not least, I thank my staff for their hard work and flawless execution of service. You hold a very special place in my heart and love each of you dearly. I’m looking forward to many more events like this in the future and making ourselves known as a destination in the Milton/Alpharetta area.

SweetWater “Stack a Fish and Stock a Stream”

SHOW SWEETWATER YOUR BIG CATCH! In October and November, 420 and IPAs will be in limited release of 12 oz & 16 oz cans with artwork of our rainbow trout. Stack up three or more to create a fish — the more empties you stack, the bigger the catch.

Take a pic, tag it #fishforafish, and we’ll work alongside the DNR to stock a fish in a stream to make sure those big browns and record rainbows are in our favorite fishing holes for years to come. One fish in a pic = one fish in a stream.
